You can install or update apps on the device through a profile made by PMDM or Scan2Stage.

App Management through PMDM / Scan2Stage
Depending on where you download the app and which apps will be installed, you can choose the methods among the follows.
Note: Some methods are not available on the Scan2Stage.

In the following cases, you can use this method with the app's APK file.
- Want to use your custom file server
- Want to use Scan2Stage for making a profile
- Currently use Standard license on the PMDM
This method makes the device download the APK file from the specified file server and install / update the app.
Regardless of the PMDM or Scan2Stage, the profile configurations will be same.
The screenshots are taken on the PMDM console.
The actual screen may differ from the figures. Especially if you are using Scan2Stage, the custom field in the task popup will not be displayed.
Prepare the APK file you want to install or update, and upload it to a file server such as Dropbox.
Create a new profile.
- Scan2Stage: Execute Scan2Stage
- PMDM: Log in PMDM console > Go to Profiles (Basic or Extension) > Click Add
Navigate to Task tab, and click Task.
Select Type as FILE_DOWNLOAD, and input the download URL of the apk file you uploaded.
The download URL must be a direct download link.
Click Apply.
When the FILE_DOWNLOAD task is performed, the apk file will be downloaded to the Download folder of device internal storage.
Add another task with APP_INSTALL type.
Input the full path and file name into Path field. Refer to the following sample figure.
(The Download folder's full path is /storage/emulated/0/Download/)
Click Apply.
When the APP_INSTALL task is performed, the specified apk file will be installed on the device.
Save the profile. And then, provision your devices using QR code or other provisioning methods.
- Scan2Stage: Provisioning with JSON
- PMDM:
- Using Smart Group: Connecting Profiles
- Individual sending: Sending a Profile / Sending a JSON Profile
After the provisioning is finished, you can find the app in the app drawer.
If the APK file has the same package name and it is a higher version that the version currently installed on the device, the app will be updated automatically.
In the following cases, you can use this method with the app's APK file.
- Want to use the PMDM console for app storage
- Want to use PMDM console for making a profile
- Currently use Enterprise license on the PMDM
This method makes the device download the APK file from the PMDM console and install / update the app.
Access PMDM Console and log in.
Go to Apps menu and upload the APK file to the PMDM Console referring to Uploading / Deleting an App (Login required).
Uploading an APK file is only available on the PMDM Enterprise license.
Go to Profiles (Basic or Extension) > Click Add to create a new profile.
Navigate to Task tab, and click Task.
Select Type as APP_INSTALL and select the APK file from the Custom field.
Click Apply.
Save the profile. And then, provision your devices using the following methods.
- Using Smart Group: Connecting Profiles
- Individual sending: Sending a Profile / Sending a JSON Profile
After the provisioning is finished, you can find the app in the app drawer.
If the APK file has the same package name and it is a higher version that the version currently installed on the device, the app will be updated automatically.
Some of the EmKit solution apps are provided through the PMDM server. So you don't need to have the APK file to update.
- Want to update the EmKit apps
- Want to use PMDM console for making a profile
This method makes the device download the EmKit app from the PMDM console and install / update it. And the standard license can use this method, too.

Access PMDM Console and log in.
Go to Profiles (Basic or Extension) > Click Add to create a new profile.
Navigate to Task tab, and click Task.
Select Type as EMKIT_APP_UPDATE, and choose the EmKit App to be updated.
Select the Version you want to update.
Click Apply.
Save the profile. And then, provision your devices using the following methods.
- Using Smart Group: Connecting Profiles
- Individual sending: Sending a Profile / Sending a JSON Profile
After the provisioning is finished, you can find the EmKit app is updated.
